Santa & Christmas Sale

Santa made his way to Western Reserve this past Saturday and brought candy to about 150 kids. He was nice enough to offer his knee for the photo shoot. A number of adults wished for the Dealership to have one more sale before the 25th so that's what we're going to do. Starting Saturday the 21st through Christmas Eve about 3 pm everything in stock will be on sale at 20 to 50% off. Items will be marked.

Western Reserve Splits H-D / Honda Database

We finally got our database organized such that we've issued our first Western Reserve Honda e-newsletter. We would like your feedback on what you ride and what you'd like to read about. We'll provide our valued Honda customers with event info and interesting articles. The articles you read in the newsletter are professionally written( except for this one), and the topic selection is huge. Hope to hear from you. miki@wrhd.com or info@westernreservecycles.com

Many riders garage their motorcycles when winter makes riding difficult or impossible. However, you shouldn't just park it on the side stand for months at a time and then expect it to start when the Crocus bloom in spring.

There are some things you should do. First, turn off the fuel, start the engine and allow the bike to continue to run until it starves from lack of fuel. This empties the carb float bowl or reserve fuel in the injector system. If there is gas in the tank pour in a fuel stabilizer. If you're unsure of the band or type to use, contact us.

Next, remove the battery and connect it to a trickle charger, preferably one like the Battery Tender that makes sure the battery stays fully charged but protects from overcharging. We suggest you put the battery in a plastic tub on a cement floor just in case it develops a leak.

Next, Try to store the bike with both wheels off the ground. We have lifts that work but you can use cement blocks topped with wood 2x4 under the frame. Of course, you'll want to make sure the bike is stable. And, you'll need a friend to help you lift it up on the platform.

Finally, cover the bike with a breathable cover. Solid plastic covers trap moisture in and can cause rust or corrosion.

Some riders opt to remove the spark plugs and squirt a small amount of oil into the combustion chamber and then replace the plugs. We suggest you see us before you try it. One reason is that you might want to put an anti-seizing compound of the spark plug threads before you reinstall them. Another is to make sure you're using the right kind of oil and the correct torque on the plugs.

Oh yes, we also suggest you thoroughly clean and polish the bike before you store it. You never know what's in that road grime. It may contain caustic substances that would harm you bike.

Everyone knows that owning a Harley-Davidson is great Rx for just about anything that ails you. But Jyp Woods has the medical evidence to prove it.

Bob "Jypson" Woods has been hit hard by Hepatitis C, a terminal liver disease that affects at least 40 million people in the U.S.

He has taken powerful drugs for a year to counteract the disease. Unfortunately, their side effects left him sick and weak.

After two months of therapy last year, Jyp decided he needed something to get him out of bed. Something that would really motivate him every day.

"And it hit me like a thunderbolt! The happiest time in my life was when I built a bike out of everybody else's worn out parts," says Jyp. "When asked, I called it a 1947 'knucklehead,' but there were parts from the 1930's to 1950's inside, and it was a Harley!"

Jyp looked for a nearby Harley-Davidson dealership, and found one. His sales rep got him onto a Sportster(R)-a lightweight bike for Jyp's big frame, but one that wasn't too difficult for him to maneuver in his weakened state.

At first, Jyp had a goal of making it one mile a day-although he only had the strength to make it two-thirds of a mile much of the time.

"Slowly that mile became three, then 10," says Jyp. When he got up to 25 miles a day, Jyp figured he was ready to trade up to a heavier model. It was a stretch, but the dealership staff made it work. "I went home with what I had dreamed of for about 20 years. A brand new FXDWG(R)!"

Once again, Jyp built up his strength and is now doing 50-mile rides almost daily.

"I've been feeling like my old self again. I had some spring in my step going to the liver doctor, fully expecting good news. That wasn't to be. They were amazed that I walked in! Seems like the bug ate the treatment and is now at levels higher than anybody there had ever heard of."

But here's the kicker: "The thing they couldn't figure out was how my liver tests are normal. No more shots, no more transplant list, and now they say I have some time for new meds to come out. I could have told them it was V-Twin therapy but they wouldn't have got it!"

To make this long story a little shorter, Thanks Stu
- Bob "Jypson" Woods
